The goal of the first assignment is to help you understand the sociological imagination.
More specifically, please do the following:
Read “The Promise of Sociology” by C. Wright Mills (it’s in the Week 1 Folder). In it, he talks about personal troubles versus social issues. You will be using ideas from this reading to make sense of short video about the TV industry (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILaU78Oo7XM&t=1s). By TV, I mean shows on network TV and original shows on streaming services.
In essay form, discuss what it’s like to be an aspiring TV writer. Why might a struggling TV writer feel like their lack of success is a personal trouble? How does the video show us that this lack of success is actually a social issue that reflects changes in the TV industry?
Papers should be 2-3 typed double-spaced pages not including a page of references (for this paper, your only references will be the Mills reading and the video). Use 12-point Times New Roman font.
