Week 1: Introduction to the Capstone Project; RHIA Exam Preparation
Course Objectives
Discuss major practical and theoretical HIM principles and their advantages and limitations.
Capstone Project:
Sometimes choosing your project topic is the hardest part. There are so many topics that are possible and you want a topic that will allow you to find enough information, but at the same time allow you to narrow it down so it won’t be overwhelming. Think back through all of your HIM courses and the things you learned and focus on areas that really interested you. It is much easier to research and write about a topic that you are enthusiastic about.
This course is designed to make your project work easier by breaking up parts of the project throughout the weeks. In the end, you will be turning in a minimum of 10-12 pages of the following:
Cover page
Table of Contents
Project Title
Project Description (abstract)
Project Objectives
Research related to the project topic
Outcomes of the project
Graphs, charts or other visuals that you produced as part of this project or to communicate outcomes of the project
Summary
Reference Page
This week, you will only submit a cover page, project title, and project statement.
Introduction:
This week you will begin to plan your Capstone Project by choosing your topic and writing a project statement and description that summarizes the intent and purpose of your research.
You will also explore all of the details of the RHIA Exam through AHIMA and begin to prepare and study for this exam. If you wish, you can even start the application process!
