Start with your thesis statement which is the controlling and focusing element of your essay. Then, write your topic sentences for each body paragraph. Add new paragraphs as needed, identifying them with a capital Roman numeral. Be sure the topic sentences are complete sentences that present strong arguments which directly support (or build) your thesis position. Under each topic sentence, list the points you’ll make to present the argument and the evidence you will use to prove each point. You may add or delete points and evidence from this template; however, you should always have at least three body paragraphs in an essay and at least 2-3 points of evidence in each paragraph.
