Many medical schools in the past required students to memorize the material word-to-word and relied heavily on recall. Board exams are getting increasingly difficult, asking very specific information or including questions that less than 35% of students get right. On the other hand, some specialties in certain areas of the world don’t require an internal medicine block as a prerequisite or require a less amount of years in internal medicine, which means that the doctors doing that get less exposure to holistic medicine and focus more on their specialty, thus they are weaker in areas of Medicine outside of their expertise.
